How it all Began:
Jim Hamilton and Tom Billionis started The Coffee Ethic on a chill morning in December 2007, on the Downtown Square in Springfield, Missouri. Cody & Maddie Hamilton helped in the endeavor however they could. And Cody was their first employee. Tom will forever have his mark on the city through his love of the CUP, PEOPLE, and the EARTH, and he will be missed dearly. Tom Billionis Memorial
Jim and Cody were trained at PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. in Topeka, Kansas, who was named Micro Roaster of the Year 2009 - Roast Magazine. This is when Jim experienced coffee at its best and Cody found a new passion.
In 2009 Cody and Jim started XPRESD, an espresso catering company based in Austin, Texas. They specialized in bringing good coffee to the masses, catering to special events, weddings, and frequented Dell’s headquarters as well.
Cody and Maddie wanted to get out of their “working from home” lifestyle. They missed the company of coffee and desired the joy of a community building career versus the demanding stresses of the advertising industry where Cody was, and still is, an advertising photographer and Maddie was an agent and producer.
Jim & Tina raised Cody and his sister in Big Piney, Casper, and Lander. After a stint in the Texas heat, it was time for them all to migrate back to Wyoming drawing the kids, grand kids, and grand dog with them. Jim & Tina have been/are both excellent parents and mentors.

Sharing great coffee is our favorite thing to do, and we’ve gotten pretty good at finding great coffee.
Our method is simple: Taste a ton of coffee. Pick our favorite ones. High five the producers because their efforts are shining through every cup, and their hard work is incredible. Do our best to preserve the taste (and the feeling) that we got from that first brew, and share it with you. Oh and then high five you because you’re awesome for trusting us to bring it to you with all of the flavour, integrity, and intent that it began with.
We like coffee. We especially like interesting coffee. We like complexity, cleanliness, acidity, and the kind of sweetness that leaves you in the candy aisle trying to nail tasting notes. We like small lots from small farms. We like coffees that are an expression of where they came from, and an expression of their grower’s hard work.

In 2013, after ten years in the specialty coffee industry, Andy Sprenger returned with his family to his home town of Lakewood, Colorado to start a new chapter in his coffee career. He brings a wealth of sourcing and roasting knowledge and titles such as two-time US Brewers Cup Champion, Runner-up in the World Brewers Cup Championship, 2013 US Aeropress Champion, and Runner-up in the 2014 US Cup Tasters Championship.
Andy is building a team of coffee professionals who care deeply for their craft, producers, and for those that buy, sell and drink Sweet Bloom Coffee.
