Jim Hamilton and Tom Billionis started The Coffee Ethic on a chill morning in December 2007, on the Downtown Square in Springfield, Missouri. Cody & Maddie Hamilton helped in the endeavor however they could. And Cody was their first employee. Jim and Cody were trained at PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. in Topeka, Kansas, who was named Micro Roaster of the Year 2009 - Roast Magazine. This is when Jim experienced coffee at its best and Cody found a new passion.

In 2009 Cody and Jim started XPRESD, an espresso catering company based in Austin, Texas. They specialized in bringing good coffee to the masses, catering to special events, weddings, and frequented Dell’s headquarters as well. Cody and Maddie wanted to get out of their “working from home” lifestyle. They missed the company of coffee and desired the joy of a community building career versus the demanding stresses of the advertising industry where Cody was, and still is, an advertising photographer and Maddie was an agent and producer.

Jim & Tina raised Cody and his sister in Big Piney, Casper, and Lander. After a stint in the Texas heat, it was time for them all to migrate back to Wyoming drawing the kids, grand kids, and grand dog with them. Jim & Tina have been/are both excellent parents and mentors.


Mondays are our roast day. You will find us meticulously measuring and roasting each coffee till it is just right.


Tuesday is the day that your order will ship. We try to get your coffee out ASAP so that it isn't sitting on some delivery truck somewhere.

Prime Time

We find most of our coffees are in their prime 7-11 days off the roast date.
